About us
St. John’s Parish Church is located in the village of Rhosymedre, approximately 7 miles away from the nearest town of Wrexham and six miles from the picturesque town of Llangollen, famous for the International Musical Eisteddfod. The Parish of St. John’s is made up of an amalgam of five small villages Rhosymedre, Plas Madoc, Cefn Mawr, Newbridge and Acrefair. There are approximately 3,500 people served by this Parish Church, which dates back to 1837. The parish population is quite diverse, Cefn Mawr and Plas Madoc comprise of large housing estates. Rhosymedre by contrast makes provision for more elderly residents via sheltered accommodation and warden controlled flats. St John’s serves four primary in located in Rhosymedre, Acrefair and Cefn Mawr which has two schools, including one Welsh medium.
The church itself is a basic cruciform design which was re-ordered in 2012, the reordering included a kitchen, two toilets and an upper room (with chair lift for the less mobile). The upper room is used for worship, and also for community use such as Raise the Roof Choir and a dance group.
